Dronfield FC are delighted to announce Matthew Talbot as the new 1XI Head Coach.
Since Ben Kirby left the club earlier last month, we have been searching for an appropriate replacement to take the reins and lead the new 1XI in the County Senior League from the 2024/25 season. After revisiting the applications and accepting new applications the committee came to the decision that Matt would be the bets fit for the club.
Matt comes with a vast amount of experience, having been involved in coaching for the best part of 12 years. Starting out in grassroots, Matt very quickly rose up the leagues to where he joins us from, Kiverton Miners Welfare. Matt has a clear style of play and his reputation for bringing through younger players and forming key partnerships was the main reason the club appointed him in this role.
Matt’s targets are clear, grow the club and ensure that the team is successful both on and off the pitch. By having these goals, the club can ensure we and the community have a team to be proud of.
Commenting on the appointment, Chairman Luke Russell had the following to say:
“Firstly, I’d like to again wish Ben the best of luck in his career, unfortunately personal circumstances changed, and he could no longer commit to the role. I’d also like to thank everyone who applied for the role and gave up their time to be involved in the recruitment process. I am delighted to bring Matt to the club. The passion he has shown is refreshing to see, he shares our vision and is committed to helping the club achieve our goals of becoming a Step 6 club in 5 years’ time. Our relationship is good and we are in frequent contact to ensure the club supports the team the best way it can. He’s a young manager and we hope not only will the club go onto bigger and better things but Matt can progress his coaching career with us.”
After being offered the role, Matt said the following:
“It’s been a busy few months but I am delighted to say I’m going to be manager of Dronfield FC. I’d like to take a minute to thank Luke and the rest of the committee for having faith and trust in me to lead the team next season. I feel proud and honoured to be leading the club next season and hopefully can get the team up the leagues. Having been in football for over 12 years, now is the right time for me to take the next step in my career, having been involved in both grassroots and Central Midlands Football. The philosophy and the vision of the club is what drew me to the club and it’s exciting time to be apart of the club. As a manager, I expect hard work and professionalism by my players and will demand this. I’m open and fair and have various different playing styles. This season is going to be huge for the club and can’t wait to get started.”
As a club we are already looking forward to next season and will be announcing more details in the near future.
